Abstract In present paper, attempts were made to develop a system of weirs along Euphrates River in Iraq solve the problem deficit power and water resources. Geometric numerical models created with geographic information (GIS) digital elevation model (DEM). The includes visual basic programming evaluate potentials according an economic methodology based on cost-benefit ratio (CBR). It estimates cost, profits, determines optimal height number small dams study reach. A three (4.3 m) can generate expected (45 MW) within (99%) CBR. is simulated (HEC-RAS) river behavior minimum, average, maximum discharge values (270, 543, 815 m3/s) hydraulic effect river. properties improve by (28%), average depth increase (27%), decrease variation caused changes. tendency store limited expansion surface area. area expands (5%), storage (35 %) especially cases low discharges.
